NETGEN is an automatic 3d tetrahedral and 2D triangular mesh generator. It accepts input from constructive solid geometry (CSG) or boundary representation (BRep) from STL file format. It also accepts IGES and STEP files through Open CASCADE Technology. NETGEN contains modules for mesh optimization and hierarchical mesh refinement. Netgen is open source based on the LGPL license. NETGEN can be downloaded from this link.

Each piece of geometry is assigned a different property. The meshed geometry shown below is inside the mesh shown above.
The left figure below is an IGES file imported into NETGEN. In this case the geometry is all 2D surface data. To the right is the mesh imported into Solaria. Again, the colors represent different properties.
